Victims
Synopsis:
The Reverent Stephen Groom, a small town vicar highly regarded by his parishioners, is accused of rape by Renata, an unstable 17 year old girl in his confirmation class. Although nobody could possibly believe that he’d committed such a crime, yet he is crucified by the media. Such is the scandal, that the Church deserts him, offering him early retirement if he settles in some remote part of the world. However, he takes matters into his own hands, resulting in his own death and the murder of Renata by his wife.
The play attempts to exemplify the results of irresponsible journalism and the protective mechanisms adopted by big organisations to avoid scandal. In such circumstances the individual becomes the sacrificial lamb
