In a Class of Their Own.
Synopsis:
Within the country seat of the Hardcasts, the whole struggle for power in the
20th century is acted out. Lord Hardcast is so grateful to his faithful, ancient retainer,
Bond, that he offers to do 'the decent thing' and 'put him down' by means of his
treasured shotgun. However, Lady Hardcast will not hear of it as, apart from the bother
that's likely to arise from the local constabulary, the noise gives her a headache. She
retires Bond to the hayloft and appoints a new Butler, Steward, who contrary to first
impressions, turns out to be a union convener. Soon the social order is reversed and the
Hardcasts find themselves negotiating away the use of the Rolls, the horses and even their
living quarters. They are on the point of being relegated to the lodge when Nigel, their
son, invents a robot which renders Stewards strike weapon useless. Lady Hardcast sees
this as a chance to exact her revenge and make them all grovel but Nigel takes charge and
tries to get them all to live harmoniously as one big family. Unfortunately, the
self-
progamming robot has other plans for them all.
